Iranian Vice President Condemns US Strike on Sharif University

The recent US strike that reportedly damaged the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran has drawn sharp criticism from Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref. The university, recognized as a leading engineering institution in Iran, has become a focal point in the escalating tensions between the two nations.

In a statement reported by Sky News, Aref characterized the attack as a reflection of “madness and ignorance” attributed to former President Donald Trump. He emphasized that the essence of Iran’s knowledge cannot be destroyed by physical means, stating, “The true bunker is the will of our professors and elite.” This assertion highlights the belief that intellectual capital is more significant than physical infrastructure.

As of now, the US has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in the strike. The nature of the weapons used remains unverified, despite Aref’s claims that bunker-busting bombs were deployed.

This incident follows a series of escalating threats from the US, including a statement from Trump on April 5, warning of potential strikes on Iranian infrastructure, such as power plants and bridges, should Iran not allow the free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz by a specified deadline. The Strait is a critical route for global oil shipments, and control over it is seen as a vital leverage point for Iran in negotiations.

Media reports indicate that US intelligence assesses that Iran is unlikely to comply with demands to open the Strait, as maintaining control over this strategic passage is one of its few remaining bargaining chips in discussions with the United States.

The US strike on Sharif University has provoked a strong response from Iranian officials, emphasizing the clash of ideologies amid rising tensions. The incident underscores the broader geopolitical struggle over control of critical maritime routes and national sovereignty.
