On Thursday morning, several Gulf nations intercepted a new wave of Iranian drones and missiles targeting oil facilities and tankers in the region.
Reports indicate that two foreign oil tankers were attacked by Iranian drones in Iraqi territorial waters, resulting in at least one fatality and the rescue of 38 others. Iran has claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting that a maritime drone was used to detonate the tankers.
The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense reported that over 20 drones were intercepted and destroyed in the eastern part of the country, where the kingdom’s oil fields are located.
Bahrain confirmed that Iranian strikes were aimed at fuel storage tanks in the northern Muharraq province. The Ministry of Interior advised residents in four nearby towns and villages to remain indoors and close their windows to protect against smoke and fire.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) stated that its air defense systems were responding to threats from missiles and drones originating from Iran. The Dubai government’s news agency reported that a drone had crashed into a building near Creek Harbour, resulting in a small fire that was subsequently contained.
Kuwait’s armed forces also announced that their air defense systems were reacting to hostile missiles and drones.
Prior to these incidents, Gulf countries had reported intercepting a new wave of Iranian drones and missiles at dawn on Wednesday local time.
In a related development, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced a significant wave of strikes targeting the infrastructure of the Hezbollah organization across Lebanon, including ten sites in Beirut.
