Investigation Launched into Soldier’s Death Amid Allegations of Medical Negligence

The Office of the Military Ombudsman has initiated an investigation following a complaint from the family of soldier Vitaliy Saltan, who reportedly did not receive timely medical assistance. The inquiry is currently underway, as confirmed by Ombudsman Olga Reshetilova.

Reshetilova stated, “We have received a complaint from the relatives of the deceased soldier regarding the lack of prompt medical care. An investigation has been appointed and is ongoing.” In addition to the internal review, the complaint has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office due to potential indications of a criminal offense.

According to local news outlet Kirovohradskaya Pravda, Saltan was mobilized on January 26 and was assigned to training with the 425th Brigade “Skelya” in Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region the following day. During his training, he fell ill, and his family claims he experienced a high fever for a week without receiving hospitalization in a timely manner.

Reports indicate that on February 15, Saltan was admitted to the intensive care unit of City Hospital No. 7 in Kamianske with a diagnosis of pneumonia. He passed away on February 22, with the family receiving official notification of his death on February 26.

The family has also filed complaints with the police and prosecutor’s office, insisting on a second forensic examination. Efforts to reach the 425th Brigade “Skelya” for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of soldier Vitaliy Saltan has begun, focusing on claims of inadequate medical care. His family is seeking accountability and further examination of the case.
