As of March 17, Ukrainian military reports indicate a significant increase in Russian assaults, with 217 attacks documented since the start of the day. This figure represents a fourfold rise compared to the average number of assaults typically recorded at this time over recent weeks.
In particular, the majority of these engagements have occurred along three key fronts: Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka, and Huliaipole. Notably, on the Kostiantynivka front, Russian forces have launched 36 offensive actions in areas including Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultine, and Sofiivka, with two clashes ongoing.
On the Pokrovsk front, Russian troops have attempted to displace Ukrainian forces 57 times, targeting positions in several settlements such as Bilitske, Dorožne, and Novopavlivka, with one confrontation still in progress. Meanwhile, the Guliaipole front has seen 20 attacks, with airstrikes reported in the vicinity of Dobropillia and other localities.
Fighting has also persisted in various regions, including Northern Slobozhanshchyna, Southern Slobozhanshchyna, and Kupiansk, among others. Reports indicate that Russian forces have resumed the use of armored vehicles in the Kostiantynivka area, as noted by local defenders.
Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi stated on March 15 that the enemy is concentrating significant resources in the Zaporizhzhia region, identifying it as a primary focus of their operations. He noted that the intensity of assaults in the Huliaipole area is markedly higher than in other regions.
According to a recent report from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian counterattacks in Zaporizhzhia could potentially disrupt Russian plans for a spring and summer offensive.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned in a March 3 interview with the Italian publication Corriere Della Sera that Ukrainian forces have reclaimed 460 square kilometers of territory since the beginning of the year.
Recent reports indicate a sharp increase in Russian military actions against Ukraine, with 217 attacks recorded on March 17 alone. Key fronts experiencing heightened conflict include Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka, and Huliaipole, as Ukrainian forces continue to engage in counteroffensive operations.
