Intense Fighting Reported on Multiple Fronts in Ukraine

As of February 17, Ukrainian forces have engaged in 53 combat encounters, a significant decrease compared to the previous day, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Russian artillery has targeted several areas, including Zarichchia and Mykhailchyna-Sloboda in the Chernihiv region, as well as Rohizne, Iskryskivshchyna, Prohres, Ryzhivka, Budky, and Kucheryvka in Sumy.

The majority of the clashes have been concentrated in three key areas: the Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk directions in Donetsk, and the Huliaipole direction in Zaporizhzhia.

In the Kostiantynivka direction, Russian forces have launched 10 offensive operations near the settlements of Pleshchiyivka, Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, and Sofiivka, with ongoing attacks towards Kostiantynivka, Illinivka, and Novopavlivka.

Meanwhile, in the Pokrovsk area, Russian troops have made 11 attempts to dislodge Ukrainian defenders from their positions around Nikanorivka, Rodynske, Kotyline, and Filia, as well as towards Novyi Donbas and Novooleksandrivka. Ukrainian forces have successfully repelled eight of these assaults.

In the Huliaipole direction, Ukrainian defenders have thwarted 16 attacks in the vicinity of Huliaipole and Solodke, as well as towards Zaliznychne and Varvarivka. Additionally, Russian aviation has struck several settlements, including Vozdvizhivka, Lisne, Verkhnya Tersa, Myrne, and Charivne. Three confrontations in this area are still ongoing.

Fighting has also been reported in the South Slobozhanskyi, Lyman, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Oleksandrivka, and Dnipro directions.

Ukrainian forces are reportedly conducting effective counterattacks and assault operations in the Oleksandrivka direction and around Huliaipole, as noted by Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi on February 16 after visiting brigade and regiment command posts.

The Pokrovsk direction remains one of the most active areas for Russian assaults, according to the General Staff’s updates.

On January 22, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Ukrainian forces continue to hold back Russian troops in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, where small groups of Russian soldiers are attempting to infiltrate northern areas of both cities. He emphasized that Ukrainian forces had disrupted another attempt by Russian invaders to seize these locations.

Fighting in Pokrovsk has been ongoing since October 2025, when Russian forces managed to break into the city after months of intense combat at its outskirts. Almost immediately, Russian soldiers were also spotted in the neighboring city of Myrnohrad.

The latest reports indicate a decrease in combat encounters in Ukraine, with significant fighting ongoing in key regions. Ukrainian forces are actively repelling Russian assaults while conducting counterattacks in several areas.
