Intense Fighting Reported in Eastern Ukraine as Military Clashes Continue

As of February 17, Ukrainian forces reported 137 combat engagements along the front lines, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The report detailed a single missile strike from the opposing forces, which involved the use of 28 missiles, alongside 50 airstrikes and the deployment of 109 guided aerial bombs. Additionally, there were 5,847 drone attacks and 2,538 shelling incidents targeting both populated areas and military positions.

Nearly half of the reported clashes occurred in three key areas: the Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk directions in Donetsk, and the Huliaipole direction in Zaporizhzhia.

In the Kostiantynivka direction, the enemy launched 13 assaults on Ukrainian defensive positions near the settlements of Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, and Sofiivka, as well as towards Kostiantynivka, Illinivka, Novopavlivka, and Ivanopillia. Three combat engagements are ongoing in this region.

Meanwhile, in the Pokrovsk direction, 16 attacks were reported, with enemy forces attempting to advance in the vicinity of the settlements of Rodynske, Kotlyne, Filia, and towards Novooleksandrivka.

The Huliaipole direction saw 29 assaults, particularly around the settlements of Dobropillia, Huliaipole, Solodke, Pryliuky, and Zelene, as well as towards Zaliznychne and Varvarivka. Four combat engagements are currently ongoing in this area. Airstrikes have targeted Vozdvizhivka, Lisne, Verkhnya Tersa, Myrne, and Charivne.

Fighting also persisted in the South Slobozhansky, Kupiansk, Lyman, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, and Oleksandrivka directions.

Ukrainian military forces are reportedly conducting effective counterattacks and assault operations in the Oleksandrivka direction and around Huliaipole, as stated by Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi on February 16 following visits to brigade and regiment command posts.

The Pokrovsk direction remains one of the most intense areas for Russian assaults, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On January 22, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi indicated that Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold back Russian troops in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, where small groups of Russian forces are attempting to infiltrate northern areas of both cities. He noted that active assault actions by Ukrainian forces have thwarted another attempt by Russian invaders to seize these settlements.

Fighting in Pokrovsk has been ongoing since October 2025, when Russian forces managed to penetrate the city after several months of battles at its outskirts. Almost immediately, Russian soldiers were also reported in the nearby city of Myrnohrad.

The ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine has seen intensified military engagements, with significant activity reported in key areas such as Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk. Ukrainian forces continue to conduct counterattacks as they face persistent assaults from Russian troops.
