On March 27, Ukrainian military officials reported a significant escalation in combat activities along the front lines, with a total of 163 clashes recorded since the start of the day. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine detailed that Russian forces conducted 44 aerial strikes, deploying 159 guided bombs, and utilized 3,835 kamikaze drones, alongside 2,658 artillery attacks targeting both military positions and civilian areas.
The majority of the fighting has been concentrated in three key areas: Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka in Donetsk, and Huliaipole in Zaporizhzhia. In the Kostiantynivka sector, Russian troops reportedly launched 34 assaults against Ukrainian defensive positions, targeting locations such as Kostiantynivka, Ivanopillia, and Illinivka, among others. Four clashes are currently ongoing in this region.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian defense forces have successfully repelled 34 assault attempts in the Pokrovsk direction, particularly around the towns of Nikanorivka, Myrnohrad, and Pokrovsk. One active confrontation persists in this area as well.
In the Huliaipole sector, there were 14 attacks directed at the towns of Varvarivka, Staroukrainka, and others, with aerial strikes reported in the vicinity of Tsvitkove and Novoselivka.
Combat operations were also noted in several other regions, including the Northern Slobozhansky, Southern Slobozhansky, Kupiansk, Lyman, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Oleksandrivka, and Dnipro directions.
In a related interview with Radio Liberty on March 19, Ruslan Habinet, commander of the 5th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade, which is actively engaged in the Pokrovsk area, stated that Ukrainian forces continue to maintain control over certain sections of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad.
Contrarily, on March 16, Russian General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov claimed that Russian forces had achieved significant successes in the Kostiantynivka and Lyman sectors, asserting that they control substantial portions of these areas. Ukrainian military representatives disputed this claim, stating that there are no Russian troops present in the city of Lyman, Donetsk region.
The U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War commented on Gerasimov’s statements, suggesting that he continues to exaggerate Russian battlefield achievements in an effort to create a misleading impression that front lines across Ukraine are on the verge of collapse.
The Ukrainian military reported intensified fighting on March 27, with numerous clashes and aerial strikes by Russian forces across several regions. Despite claims of territorial gains by Russia, Ukrainian officials maintain control over key areas and dispute these assertions.
