Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán Acknowledges Election Defeat to Opposition Party Tisza

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has publicly acknowledged the defeat of his party, Fidesz, in the recent parliamentary elections, conceding victory to the opposition party Tisza. In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Orbán expressed his congratulations to Tisza leader Péter Mádjár.

Orbán characterized the election results as “painful but clear,” stating, “I congratulated the winning party.” He emphasized his commitment to serve Hungary and its citizens, even from the opposition.

He remarked, “We do not yet know what the election results will mean for the fate of our country and nation; time will tell. However, we will serve our country even in opposition. The burden of governance does not rest on our shoulders, so our task now is to strengthen our community.”

In his address, Orbán thanked his supporters, noting that 2.5 million Hungarians cast their votes for Fidesz. He declared, “Everyone can know one thing: here, in this room, and throughout the country, we will never, ever, ever give up!”

During his speech, Fidesz supporters chanted Orbán’s name, with some visibly emotional. Earlier, Tisza leader Péter Mádjár reported that Orbán had called him to congratulate him on the election victory.

As of 10:35 PM on April 12, the Hungarian Electoral Commission had processed 60% of the ballots. Preliminary results indicated that Tisza secured 68% of the votes, translating to 136 seats in parliament, while Orbán’s Fidesz received 28% and 56 seats.
