Hezbollah Launches Rocket Attacks on Israel Amid Rising Tensions

On the evening of March 11, Hezbollah, a militant group based in Lebanon, launched over a hundred rockets into Israel, resulting in injuries among civilians. This escalation marks a significant increase in hostilities along the Israel-Lebanon border.

According to reports from Associated Press and Times of Israel, one of the rockets struck a house near the city of Karmiel, injuring two individuals. Additionally, another person was hurt by falling debris from the attack. Israeli emergency services confirmed these casualties.

In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they had initiated a series of strikes targeting Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. The IDF’s operations included an attack on the densely populated Dahieh area in southern Beirut. Colonel Avichai Adarai, an IDF spokesperson, urged residents to avoid returning to the southern suburb until further notice.

Israeli officials indicated that Hezbollah is expected to continue its attacks into the night of March 12. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed his cabinet that the country is “still far from concluding the war,” highlighting the ongoing nature of the conflict.

On February 28, Israel had previously conducted an airstrike in Tehran, targeting Iranian military interests. Following this, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a large-scale military operation against Iran, aimed at neutralizing perceived threats from the Iranian regime. He accused Iran of funding and training militant groups in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Hamas in Palestine, asserting that the operation’s goal was to dismantle Iran’s missile industry and naval capabilities.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for launching missiles and drones towards Israel, as well as attacking U.S. military bases in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

In light of the escalating military actions, French President Emmanuel Macron called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council. The European Union reiterated its commitment to ensuring regional security and stability in the Middle East.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed support for the Iranian people, advocating for their right to rid themselves of what he termed a “terrorist regime” and to ensure safety for all nations affected by Iranian aggression.

On March 1, the IRGC announced the commencement of what they described as the most destructive offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic against Israel and U.S. bases. Trump responded by urging the Iranian regime to abandon these plans, threatening a “very strong response” if they did not comply.

On March 2, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the next phase of the military operation against Iran would be even more devastating. By March 6, Trump emphasized the need for a complete change in Iran’s leadership, suggesting he had potential candidates in mind for a “good leader.” On March 8, Iran’s Assembly of Experts appointed Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the third Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.

Hezbollah's recent rocket attacks on Israel have escalated tensions in the region, prompting military responses from Israel. The ongoing conflict is intertwined with broader geopolitical issues involving Iran and U.S. military operations.
