Rishi Sunak, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has been appointed as an advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on economic recovery efforts. His role includes membership in the International Advisory Council for Ukraine’s Economic Recovery.
This announcement was made on the UK government’s official website. Sunak will collaborate with a group of international experts tasked with providing recommendations to President Zelensky and his economic advisor, Chrystia Freeland, a former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada.
According to The Independent, Sunak expressed pride in supporting Ukraine during his tenure as Prime Minister. He commended President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people for their remarkable courage and resilience in the ongoing conflict.
“The West needs a strong Ukraine, and a strong Ukraine needs a strong economy. I am pleased to join the international group advising President Zelensky on economic reconstruction. I am confident that Ukraine—with its human capital, natural resources, and culture of innovation—can become one of the most dynamic economies in Europe,” Sunak stated.
He emphasized the importance of collective efforts to build a “strong and secure Ukraine that will be a cornerstone of a safer and more prosperous Europe.”
On February 27, Sunak participated in the inaugural meeting of the Council, which also included World Bank President Ajay Banga, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development President Odile Renaud-Basso, and representatives from leading global firms such as Siemens, BlackRock, Citigroup, and ArcelorMittal.
In addition to his advisory role, Sunak remains a member of the UK Parliament and serves as a consultant for Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, and the AI developer Anthropic.
