Reports have emerged claiming that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former president of Iran, has died due to a U.S.-Israeli military operation targeting Iran. The Iranian news agency ILNA stated that Ahmadinejad was killed in an airstrike in the Narmak area of Tehran, where his residence is located, alongside several of his guards.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding Ahmadinejad’s death. He served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013 and held various governmental roles prior to his presidency, including governor of two provinces and mayor of Tehran.
In recent years, Ahmadinejad had expressed support for Ukraine amidst the ongoing Russian invasion, labeling the conflict as a “satanic war.” Notably, the report from ILNA was later removed from their website.
In a related context, on February 28, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and General Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, were reportedly killed in morning strikes in Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that Khamenei was targeted during a joint military operation by American and Israeli forces. Prior to the attack, the CIA had pinpointed Khamenei’s location. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that retaliation is a “legal right and obligation.”
