EU Seeks Timeline for Restoration of Druzhba Pipeline, Says Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has indicated that the European Union is keen to establish a timeline for the restoration of the Druzhba oil pipeline. This matter was discussed during a meeting in Kyiv with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel.

Zelensky stated that recent phone conversations with EU leaders emphasized the necessity for Ukraine to provide a date for the potential resumption of oil supplies. He noted that this timeline would depend on technical processes and specific dates. “Our Naftogaz is in contact, and they are working on this,” he added, responding to inquiries about the EU’s readiness to unblock a €90 billion aid package contingent upon the pipeline’s operational status.

The Druzhba pipeline, one of the largest oil transport networks in the world, has faced disruptions that have impacted oil supplies to several European nations. The restoration of this pipeline is viewed as critical for both Ukraine and the EU, especially in light of ongoing energy security concerns.

As discussions continue, the focus remains on how quickly technical assessments can be completed and what measures will be necessary to ensure the pipeline’s functionality. The outcome of these discussions may have significant implications for energy supply dynamics in Europe.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that the EU is seeking a timeline for the restoration of the Druzhba pipeline. Discussions with EU leaders highlight the importance of technical assessments in determining the potential resumption of oil supplies.
