Ecuador and U.S. Launch Joint Operations Against Terrorist Organizations

On March 3, Ecuadorian and U.S. armed forces commenced collaborative operations targeting organizations designated as terrorist in Ecuador. This initiative was announced by the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) via social media platform X.

SOUTHCOM characterized these operations as a demonstration of commitment among partners in Latin America and the Caribbean to combat drug-related terrorism. The command emphasized the cooperative efforts to address the threats posed by narcoterrorists.

“Together we are taking decisive actions against narcoterrorists who have long sown terror, violence, and corruption among citizens across the hemisphere,” SOUTHCOM stated.

General Francis L. Donovan, the commander of SOUTHCOM, expressed appreciation for the dedication of Ecuadorian armed forces in this fight, commending their courage and determination in confronting narcoterrorist activities within their nation.

On January 23, former U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that American military forces could conduct ground strikes against drug cartels in various locations, including Mexico, Venezuela, and Colombia. This statement highlighted an aggressive stance on addressing drug-related violence in the region.

Ecuador and the United States have initiated joint military operations against terrorist organizations involved in drug trafficking. This collaboration underscores a broader commitment to counter narcoterrorism in Latin America.
