On the night of April 4, drone strikes reportedly targeted the Russian city of Tolyatti in the Samara region, impacting two chemical facilities and resulting in fires, according to local social media channels.
The Telegram channel Astra, along with other public accounts, indicated that multiple explosions were heard in Tolyatti, with significant damage reported at the “Tolyattikauchuk” and “KuibyshevAzot” chemical plants. Initial reports from residents described a large fire in the area.
Astra later geolocated the sites of the strikes, confirming that the fires were concentrated near the two chemical facilities. The Russian aviation authority, Rosaviatsiya, announced the temporary suspension of operations at Samara Airport following the incident.
According to Astra, eyewitness accounts detailed numerous explosions and subsequent fires in Tolyatti. Analysis of video footage corroborated that the fires occurred near the two chemical plants, which are situated close to each other.
“KuibyshevAzot” is noted as a leading Russian chemical company, specializing in the production of caprolactam and nitrogen fertilizers. Meanwhile, “Tolyattikauchuk” focuses on synthetic rubber production and chemical components used in tire manufacturing and rubber products.
This incident follows a broader pattern of drone attacks reported across various regions of Russia, with authorities previously acknowledging a significant drone assault on March 11, which also affected Tolyatti.
