Criminal Investigation Launched After Attack on Military Personnel in Ukraine

The police in the Volyn region have initiated a criminal investigation following an incident involving military personnel from the regional recruitment center and civilians.

The conflict occurred on March 8 in the Kamian-Kashyrskyi district. During the transport of a conscript, their vehicle was intercepted by civilians who blocked the road. The individuals reportedly shattered the glass of the military vehicle, injured the servicemen, and forcibly removed the conscript, who had been evading military service.

Authorities confirmed that a crime scene investigation team identified all participants in the incident, who are residents of the Kamian-Kashyrskyi area. The investigation is being conducted under the article concerning obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a special period. Those implicated could face imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.

Prior to this, the Volyn Territorial Recruitment Center reported that a group of civilians attacked military personnel while they were carrying out an official task. Near the village of Ozero, approximately seven civilian vehicles surrounded the military transport, forcing it off the road. Following this, the group allegedly assaulted the servicemen, broke the vehicle’s glass, and unlawfully released the conscript.

As a result of the attack, one serviceman sustained a head injury, while another suffered abrasions on their forearm and face from the shattered glass. Both individuals are reported to be in stable condition.

The conscript, who was forcibly removed, is a resident of Zaporizhzhia and is subject to military service.

The recruitment center emphasized that obstructing the lawful activities of military personnel during martial law carries criminal liability. In August 2025, personnel from the Volyn Territorial Recruitment Center also faced an assault in the Kovel district.

Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, martial law has been enacted, with general mobilization declared. The Ukrainian Parliament has been extending the martial law and mobilization periods every three months since then.

Reports of conflicts between recruitment center staff and citizens have frequently surfaced in Ukrainian media, with negative information about mobilization rapidly spreading across social networks. Ukrainian military officials and representatives have stated that this phenomenon is a result of information and psychological operations by Russia.

A criminal investigation is underway after civilians attacked military personnel in Ukraine, forcibly releasing a conscript. The incident highlights ongoing tensions surrounding military mobilization amid the ongoing conflict.
