An avalanche struck a group of tourists in Hemsedal, Norway, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving one person missing. Emergency services are actively engaged in search efforts at the site.
On Monday morning, authorities received reports of the avalanche in the area known as Halseane, where a large group of tourists was present. Four individuals were swept away by the snow, leading to the fatalities of a 20-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man. Another tourist has been unaccounted for since shortly after the incident.
“Unfortunately, two of the victims have died,” stated Roger Aaser, the operations leader for the Southeast Police District.
All available resources, including a helicopter, have been deployed to the scene. The police have not yet disclosed details regarding the experience level of the victims or the equipment they were using.
An orange avalanche warning has been issued in Hallingdal, indicating a significant risk of further snow slides. Authorities are also cautioning about the potential for additional avalanches in the area.
Rescue teams are continuing their search for the missing tourist while ensuring the safety of others in the hazardous zone.
