In the early hours of February 22, air raid alerts were issued in Kyiv and several surrounding regions due to the risk of hostile drone and ballistic missile strikes. The Kyiv City Military Administration confirmed that the alerts were prompted by the potential use of ballistic weapons by enemy forces.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported threats emerging from the north, indicating the presence of “fast-moving targets” aimed at Kyiv. Shortly after 4 AM, authorities also warned of ballistic threats originating from the south.
In addition to the alerts in Kyiv, nearby regions were placed on high alert due to the looming danger of Russian strike drones. The Kyiv Regional Military Administration noted that air defense systems were actively engaged in the area.
According to the administration, “Unmanned aerial vehicles have been detected in the airspace. Air defense forces are engaging targets.” Explosions were reported in Kyiv amidst the ongoing threats from both ballistic missiles and Russian drones.
Timur Tkachенко, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, stated, “The enemy is attacking the capital with ballistic weapons.” The Air Force further confirmed that drone attacks were underway targeting Kyiv.
