Ukrainian Justice Ministry Seeks to Seize Assets of Oleg Tsaryov

The Ukrainian Ministry of Justice has filed a lawsuit with the High Anti-Corruption Court aimed at confiscating the assets of Oleg Tsaryov. This action was officially announced on February 24.

Tsaryov, who served as a member of the Ukrainian Parliament from the fourth to the seventh convocations and was part of the Party of Regions since December 2012, is under scrutiny for his role as the so-called ‘speaker of parliament’ for the self-proclaimed ‘Novorossiya’. This entity is a coalition of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), both of which are quasi-state formations established by Russia in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

The Ministry of Justice highlighted that Tsaryov has two criminal convictions related to encroachments on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and actions aimed at violently altering or overthrowing the constitutional order. Furthermore, since 2014, he has engaged in public activities advocating for changes to Ukraine’s territorial borders and has made public calls for violent changes to the constitutional order. His actions since 2022 have been directed towards supporting and justifying Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The lawsuit includes assets indirectly owned by Tsaryov through his wife, Larisa Anatoliivna Tsaryova, and their son, Maksym Olegovych Tsaryov. The assets in question comprise 21 plots of land, various buildings and structures in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and corporate rights.

As of now, the High Anti-Corruption Court has not confirmed receipt of the lawsuit. In November 2024, a Ukrainian court sentenced Tsaryov in absentia to eight years in prison for financing Russia’s armed aggression. Earlier, in May 2022, he was sentenced to 12 years in absentia for public calls to change the borders and territorial integrity of Ukraine and for advocating violent changes to the constitutional order.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Justice has initiated legal proceedings to seize the assets of Oleg Tsaryov, a former parliament member linked to pro-Russian activities. This follows multiple convictions against him for undermining Ukraine's territorial integrity.
