Ukraine Engages in Consultations on Strait of Hormuz Security

Ukrainian military officials are participating in discussions regarding the operational future of the Strait of Hormuz. President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the significance of safe maritime navigation as a global value, noting Ukraine’s experience in protecting its waters in the Black Sea.

“It is essential that everyone around the world recognizes this value,” Zelensky stated.

In addition, Zelensky revealed that Ukraine is collaborating with European partners and Middle Eastern countries to enhance security exports. This initiative is part of a broader strategy where Ukraine provides security expertise while receiving necessary support for internal stability and energy security.

He pointed out that nations in the Middle East, currently facing conflict, require urgent expertise and response capabilities. “Ukrainian expertise has proven effective, and this is widely acknowledged. As a result, there are long-term agreements on security cooperation,” the president noted.

Looking ahead, Zelensky indicated that the upcoming weeks will focus on collaboration with European partners, involving joint production, defense modernization, funding programs, and coordination of security actions. He also mentioned a growing interest from Asian countries, directing his team to address their requests promptly.

The primary objective, he reiterated, is to continually provide Ukraine with real opportunities for defense.

On April 6, Zelensky announced that Ukraine had submitted a proposal for an energy ceasefire to Russia. Additionally, on April 5, a trilateral meeting took place in Damascus involving Ukraine, Syria, and Turkey, where defense cooperation and food security were discussed.

On the same day, the president reported that Russia had shared satellite intelligence with Iran concerning over 50 civilian energy facilities in Israel. These developments occur amidst ongoing tensions involving the U.S. and Israel against Iran, which has effectively restricted commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, leading to a significant rise in oil prices.

Ukrainian military officials are actively involved in discussions about the future security of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the importance of safe maritime navigation. The country is also enhancing its security collaboration with European and Middle Eastern partners while addressing requests from Asian nations.
