Officials from Ukraine and the United States are scheduled to hold talks in Miami on March 21. This meeting follows an announcement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on March 19 regarding the discussions.
The American delegation will be represented by Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Joe Biden.
The Ukrainian political negotiating team, which is currently en route to the United States, includes key figures such as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, Head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Budanov, First Deputy Head of the Office of the President Serhiy Kyslytsia, and the leader of the Servant of the People faction Davyd Arakhamia.
On March 20, President Zelensky clarified that the discussions would occur without Russian participation. He indicated that the Ukrainian side aims to address three main topics during the talks.
The first topic will be the scheduling of a new trilateral meeting with Russia. The second will focus on concerns regarding the US decision to suspend certain sanctions against Russian energy, which has implications for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Lastly, the discussions will cover documents related to security guarantees and the reconstruction of Ukraine.
It is important to note that talks involving Ukraine, Russia, and the US are currently at a standstill, largely due to the US’s primary focus on operations against Iran.
