U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Munich Security Conference, scheduled for February 13-15.
Rubio stated to reporters, “I think he will be there, and there’s a chance to see him. I believe it’s in my schedule, although I can’t be 100% sure, but I’m convinced we’ll meet.”
Zelensky had previously indicated that he would attend the event if the security situation in Ukraine allows it.
The Munich Security Conference will address European security and the role of America, along with the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Almost 50 heads of state and government have confirmed their participation.
Key agenda items for the conference include:
- European security and defense;
- The future of transatlantic relations;
- Revitalizing multilateral cooperation;
- Competing models of world order;
- Regional conflicts;
- The impact of new technologies on security.
Ukraine will receive particular attention during various formats, with key priorities for its delegation including:
- Peaceful resolution of the conflict;
- Boosting defense capabilities, especially air defense;
- Enhancing energy resilience;
- Applying pressure on Russia through sanctions, political and diplomatic measures, and isolation.
Additionally, the conference will see the opening of the Ukrainian House for the first time, symbolizing support and Ukraine’s new role in global security.
