U.S. Defense Secretary Reports Successful Operation Against Iranian Mines in Strait of Hormuz

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegset has announced the successful execution of a military operation in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in the destruction of Iranian mining vessels. He emphasized that the United States will not allow Tehran to hold the vital waterway hostage.

In a statement, Hegset noted, “At the direction of President Trump, CENTCOM has eliminated the inaction of mining vessels in the Strait of Hormuz with ruthless precision. We will not permit terrorists to take the Strait of Hormuz hostage.” This declaration underscores the U.S. commitment to maintaining security in the region.

Hegset also conveyed a similar message to what he termed the “weakened Iranian regime,” reiterating the importance of the Strait of Hormuz and the implications of holding it hostage.

Additionally, he referenced a report from U.S. Central Command, which indicated that 16 Iranian mine-laying vessels had been destroyed during the operation. This action is part of ongoing efforts to ensure safe passage through the strategic waterway.

The Defense Secretary concluded, stating, “The strait is blocked. Mines have not been deployed. The Navy is reducing its presence. Iran is losing.” This statement reflects the U.S. military’s assessment of the current situation in the region.
