U.S. President Donald Trump is contemplating the possibility of withdrawing the United States from NATO. This topic is expected to be discussed in a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte later today.
In response to a journalist’s inquiry about the U.S. stance on NATO, White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham stated, “This issue has been discussed by the president, and I believe he will address it with Secretary General Rutte in a few hours. You may hear comments directly from the president following that meeting.”

The president has previously characterized the alliance as a “paper tiger” and accused member states of lacking resolve.
According to Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin would not fear NATO if the United States were to withdraw from the alliance.
