Trump Administration Proposes Monumental Arch in Washington, D.C.

The Trump administration has unveiled plans for a 76-meter triumphal arch in Washington, D.C. The proposal has been submitted to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, which is set to review it next week.

President Trump expressed his enthusiasm in a statement, announcing the official submission of designs for what he called the “largest and most beautiful triumphal arch in the world.” The arch, named the “Trump Arch,” is designed to surpass the height of both the U.S. Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial.

Visual representations of the arch feature the phrase “One Nation Under God,” flanked by two eagles and a winged Statue of Liberty, along with lion sculptures at its base. The White House indicated that the arch would enhance the experience for visitors at Arlington National Cemetery.

White House spokesperson Davis Ingle noted, “The arch will improve the experience for veterans, families of the fallen, and all Americans, serving as a visual reminder of the noble sacrifices made by many American heroes throughout our 250-year history, allowing us to enjoy our freedoms today.”

However, funding for the project remains uncertain. Trump previously mentioned that part of the financing could come from leftover funds from the construction of a ballroom.

The inspiration for the arch reportedly comes from the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Trump envisions the structure welcoming those entering Washington from Arlington Cemetery via the Memorial Bridge.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the administration to reimagine the symbolic landscape of the capital. Recently, Trump’s team has been promoting ideas to commemorate his name in public spaces.

Among other proposals, there are discussions about renaming the Palm Beach airport, which serves the Mar-a-Lago area, in his honor. Additionally, plans are underway to issue banknotes featuring his signature and gold coins with his likeness in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, raising questions about their legality.

The Trump administration has proposed a 76-meter triumphal arch in Washington, D.C., which is set for review by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. Named the "Trump Arch," the project aims to enhance the experience at Arlington National Cemetery, although funding sources are still unclear.
