Kyiv’s Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, recently held a meeting with Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, Austria’s Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism. The discussion focused on Austria’s historical investment in Ukraine and the potential for future collaboration, particularly in the context of rebuilding efforts in Kyiv and other cities affected by the ongoing conflict.
During the meeting, Hattmannsdorfer emphasized Austria’s commitment to supporting Ukraine, stating that Austrian businesses are prepared to engage in cooperative projects, especially those related to energy. Klitschko noted that they agreed to identify and develop specific initiatives that could be implemented together.
In addition to discussions about economic collaboration, Hattmannsdorfer presented Kyiv with two heating units intended to assist with warming facilities during the winter months. Klitschko highlighted the importance of such humanitarian aid, expressing gratitude for Austria’s ongoing support.
Klitschko also reiterated the significance of international backing for Ukraine’s sovereignty and democratic aspirations. He stated, “The minister assured me that Austria will continue to support Ukraine in its fight for a free and democratic state. It is crucial for Ukrainians to remain strong and resilient in defending their sovereignty and European future, with the support of our partners.”
Previously, Klitschko had appealed to foreign partners for assistance in addressing the urgent challenges posed by Russian attacks on critical infrastructure in Kyiv. Following this appeal, the city received over 200 generators from Poland, 30 from France, and additional support from the European Union and Copenhagen, which has been instrumental in restoring essential services such as water, heating, and electricity.
