The Iranian government has formally requested clarification from Germany regarding the role of the Ramstein Air Base, the largest U.S. military facility in Europe, in the ongoing military conflict. Iran’s Ambassador to Berlin, Majid Nili, expressed concerns about the base’s involvement, stating that its function remains “officially unclear.” Tehran suspects that the base’s use by the United States may violate international law.
In his interview with AFP, Nili referenced United Nations Resolution 3314, which prohibits states from allowing their territory to be used for acts of aggression against third parties. He emphasized, “We have asked them to clarify or explain the role of Ramstein. To date, we have not received any response.”
In response to Iran’s assertions, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius indicated that he sees no reason to question the legality of operations at Ramstein. The German government maintains that the activities of U.S. military personnel in Germany are strictly regulated by existing international agreements.
Nili warned that ignoring the situation surrounding the Ramstein base could have direct consequences for Europe. He outlined several potential repercussions:
-
Economic Disruptions: The conflict in the region is already impacting global markets.
-
Refugee Crisis and Terrorism: Further destabilization in the Middle East may trigger new waves of migration.
-
Maritime Blockades: Nili noted that the Strait of Hormuz is effectively blocked for those supporting the “aggressors.”
Tehran is calling for an immediate and long-term ceasefire and is raising issues regarding financial compensation for attacks on civilian infrastructure. As Berlin remains silent, tensions surrounding the key U.S. military hub in Europe continue to escalate.
Iran has formally requested Germany to clarify the role of the Ramstein Air Base in the ongoing conflict, citing concerns over potential violations of international law. German officials maintain that U.S. operations at the base are legally sound, while Iran warns of significant consequences for Europe if the situation is ignored.
