Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor of Germany, has drawn a controversial parallel between Russians and Nazis, asserting that Russia is engaged in “Nazi propaganda” against Ukraine.
This statement was made during a speech at the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party congress in Stuttgart on February 20, as reported by Deutsche Welle and referenced by RBC-Ukraine.
Merz expressed Germany’s unwavering support for the Ukrainian people, condemning Russia for committing war crimes against civilians in Ukraine. He stated, “We will never agree with how the criminal Russian regime systematically wages war against the civilian population of this country, targeting the elderly, women, and children.”
In his remarks, Merz reiterated his comparison of Russians to Nazis, claiming that they are engaging in “Nazi propaganda” against Ukraine and its citizens. He emphasized that Germany will stand against such actions.
He highlighted the severity of the propaganda, stating, “All of this is accompanied by almost unbearable Nazi propaganda against the Ukrainian people, a people that has suffered like no other on earth from German and Russian tyranny.”
Merz also suggested that Europe must learn to communicate with Russia “in the language of strength,” warning that history is repeating itself.
He concluded with a cautionary note, stating, “History teaches us one thing: appeasement does not bring peace. It only encourages the aggressor. Those who adhere to naive pacifism today are contributing to the wars of tomorrow.”
Friedrich Merz, Germany's Chancellor, has made a stark comparison between Russia and the Nazis, emphasizing Germany's support for Ukraine amidst ongoing conflict. His remarks highlight the severe implications of propaganda and the need for a firm stance against aggression.
