Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann in France on March 26, focusing on enhancing cooperation between Ukraine and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
During their discussions, the two officials addressed regional developments, including the implications of the situation in the Middle East for global security and economic stability. Sybiha emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to pursuing OECD membership, expressing the goal of achieving candidate status within the year.
“Ukraine is steadfastly moving towards OECD membership and is prepared to advance to the next stage. Our integration into the OECD will facilitate Ukraine’s recovery and secure our position within the community of developed democratic states,” Sybiha stated.
The Foreign Minister also highlighted Ukraine’s growing role as a platform for collaboration with Eastern partners, noting that the OECD office in Ukraine would support the establishment of regional standards and policies.
In recognition of Cormann’s support, Sybiha presented him with the Order of Merit on behalf of the President of Ukraine, referring to him as “a true friend whose principled leadership has strengthened our resilience and consistently advanced our reform process.”
Cormann acknowledged the discussions, expressing satisfaction with the ongoing collaboration. “Our joint efforts will help ensure a strong, successful future for Ukraine,” he remarked.
In June 2025, then-Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal indicated that Ukraine aims to join the OECD by 2026.
