IMF Delegation Begins Work in Ukraine to Discuss Economic Reforms

On March 18, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced the commencement of its operations in Ukraine, led by its resident representative, Prishila Tofano. The delegation, headed by Gavin Gray, is engaging in discussions with Ukrainian officials and other stakeholders regarding the country’s economic policies.

Tofano indicated that the focus of these discussions would center on macroeconomic strategies and essential structural reforms needed for Ukraine’s economic stability. This visit comes in the wake of Ukraine receiving its first tranche of funding from the IMF earlier in March, as part of a new four-year program under the Extended Fund Facility.

In February, the IMF’s Board of Directors approved this new program, which allocates $8.1 billion to support Ukraine’s economy during a critical period. The funding aims to bolster economic resilience and implement necessary reforms that align with international financial standards.

The ongoing dialogue between the IMF and Ukrainian authorities is crucial for ensuring that the country meets its economic targets and strengthens its financial framework amid ongoing challenges.

The IMF has initiated discussions in Ukraine focused on economic reforms and macroeconomic policy, following the approval of an $8.1 billion funding program. This engagement aims to support Ukraine's economic stability during a pivotal period.
