Dutch market maker IMC Trading has announced the appointment of Alex Casimo as the new chief commercial officer of its cryptocurrency division. Casimo, who began his role this week, will be based in London and is expected to enhance the firm’s institutional crypto offerings.
This strategic hire underscores IMC’s goal of fostering stronger relationships with institutional clients and foundations within the cryptocurrency landscape. The firm aims to position itself as a leading player in the client-facing segment of the industry.
Prior to joining IMC, Casimo was the founder and COO of Portofino Technologies, a crypto market-making firm, and he has also held a position at Citadel Securities. Both IMC and Casimo have opted not to comment further on the appointment.
The move comes as traditional finance firms increasingly venture into the cryptocurrency market, driven by rising client demand, clearer regulations, and improved market infrastructure. What was once considered a niche market is now being recognized as a viable asset class, prompting institutions to develop businesses around custody, trading, tokenization, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to capitalize on new revenue opportunities.
IMC Trading, headquartered in Amsterdam, already boasts a significant footprint in the crypto space, trading an average of $3 billion daily across various markets. The firm supports hundreds of trading pairs and has access to 50 major exchanges worldwide. Utilizing its own capital and advanced technology, IMC provides liquidity across multiple asset classes, including equities and options, while managing risks and profiting from price discrepancies.
IMC Trading has appointed Alex Casimo as chief commercial officer of its cryptocurrency division, aiming to strengthen institutional relationships. This hire reflects the growing trend of traditional finance firms entering the crypto market as it gains acceptance as a legitimate asset class.
