Pope Leo XIV has issued a directive to priests, advising them against the use of artificial intelligence in crafting sermons for their congregations.
The Pope emphasized the importance of engaging with real-life experiences, urging clergy to resist the temptation to rely on AI for sermon preparation. He cautioned that while technology can be beneficial, it must be approached with caution.
“Like all muscles in the body, if we do not use them, they weaken. The brain needs to be exercised, so our intellect must also be trained to retain its capability,”
he stated. The Pope further highlighted that preaching is a means of sharing faith, which he believes cannot be effectively conveyed through AI.
He remarked, “If we can offer ministry that is rooted in the community where we serve, people want to see your faith, your experience of knowing and loving Jesus Christ.”
Pope Leo XIV has called on priests to refrain from using artificial intelligence for sermon preparation, emphasizing the importance of personal engagement and authentic faith sharing. He believes that AI cannot replicate the genuine experience of conveying faith to congregants.
