Audit of Ukraine’s Energoatom Uncovers Significant Irregularities

The Ukrainian government has initiated an audit of Energoatom, the state nuclear energy company, following a corruption scandal that has raised concerns about its operations. Preliminary findings from the audit have already identified several deficiencies and violations.

During a recent meeting, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal received a report detailing the initial conclusions of the ongoing audit, which is examining all expenditures for potential excesses and risky operations.

Among the issues highlighted are inaccuracies in estimating the expected costs of procurements, instances of inflated expenses for purchasing goods and materials, and the involvement of intermediaries in the supply of goods. Additionally, auditors are scrutinizing the legality of salary payments to the company’s leadership, as noted by the Prime Minister.

Shmyhal assured that any violations uncovered during the audit will be subject to appropriate legal assessment by law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies. Those responsible will face accountability, he promised.

The ongoing audit of Energoatom has revealed serious irregularities, including inflated procurement costs and questionable salary practices. The government vows to hold accountable anyone found responsible for these issues.
