Apple Unveils iPhone 17e: A Budget-Friendly Addition to Its Lineup

Apple has introduced the iPhone 17e, marking its most affordable model in the iPhone 17 series. Priced at $599, the base version offers 256 GB of internal storage, doubling the capacity of its predecessor at the same price point.

The iPhone 17e is powered by the new A19 chip, designed to enhance performance in daily tasks, gaming, and artificial intelligence applications. Additionally, it features Apple’s latest C1X modem, which reportedly offers twice the speed of the previous C1 modem used in the iPhone 16e.

In terms of camera capabilities, the iPhone 17e includes a 48-megapixel Fusion camera, capable of capturing next-generation portraits and 4K Dolby Vision video. The camera employs a technology called sensor cropping, allowing for 2x optical quality zoom without the need for a separate telephoto lens.

The device sports a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display protected by Ceramic Shield 2 glass, which Apple claims is three times more resistant to scratches and better at reducing glare compared to its predecessor. The iPhone 17e also supports MagSafe, enabling fast wireless charging and compatibility with various accessories.

For users in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity, the iPhone 17e offers satellite features, including:

  • Emergency calling
  • Roadside assistance
  • Messaging
  • Location tracking via satellite

Alongside the iPhone 17e, Apple announced the iPad Air with the M4 chip. This updated model features:

  • 12 GB of RAM, up from 8 GB
  • Wi-Fi 7, replacing Wi-Fi 6E
  • Bluetooth 6, upgrading from 5.3

While the design and colors remain unchanged, the new iPad Air is slightly heavier, by 4-5 grams. Pricing for the 11-inch version starts at:

  • $600 for Wi-Fi only
  • $750 for Wi-Fi + cellular

For the 13-inch version, prices are:

  • $800 for Wi-Fi only
  • $950 for Wi-Fi + cellular

This year, Apple is shifting from its traditional single online stream from Cupertino to a new format called “Apple Experience”. This series of events will take place over three days, from March 2 to 4, across three major cities: New York, London, and Shanghai. Instead of a conventional stage show, journalists and influencers will have the opportunity to test the devices in dedicated demonstration zones.

Apple has launched the iPhone 17e, its most affordable model yet, featuring advanced technology and improved camera capabilities. The company also introduced an updated iPad Air with enhanced specifications, alongside a new event format for product presentations.
