Upcoming Trilateral Talks Between Ukraine, US, and Russia Scheduled for Early March in Abu Dhabi

Trilateral negotiations involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia are set to take place in early March, likely in Abu Dhabi, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky reported that he had multiple discussions today with Rustem Umerov, the head of the Ukrainian parliamentary faction “Servant of the People,” as well as with US negotiators Steve Vitkoff and Jared Kushner. He expressed optimism regarding the next meeting, stating, “We expect the format to be in the Emirates, specifically in Abu Dhabi, at the beginning of March.”

The President emphasized the necessity of preparing for a leaders’ level meeting, asserting that such a format could be pivotal in addressing key issues. He remarked, “Ultimately, leaders decide on critical matters, and when it comes to Russia—a personalized regime—this is significantly more impactful than in other countries. We must end the war; this is our position, the position of Ukraine, and the stance of all our partners.”

Despite the forthcoming talks, Zelensky noted that there is currently no indication of Russia’s willingness to pursue peace. He stated that there are no signs suggesting that the Russian leadership is prepared to halt its military operations. The President reiterated the need for continued pressure on Russia, highlighting the importance of sanctions.

“We are discussing various formats of pressure and diplomacy with both America and Europe that could be effective. It is crucial for our partners to remain resolute. I have given my team directives on what we need to achieve,” Zelensky added.

Umerov provided additional context, mentioning that discussions in Geneva were held in two formats—separate meetings with American representatives and a trilateral session that included Switzerland. He stated, “The next round is being prepared. We are working on finalizing security parameters, economic solutions, and agreed positions that will serve as the foundation for further agreements. The goal is to make the next trilateral meeting with the US and Russia as substantive as possible.”

The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council noted that particular attention was given to the economic aspects and long-term mechanisms for supporting Ukraine. He stated, “Together with the economic team of the government, including Oleksiy Sobolev, and our American partners, we have worked on a document regarding the reconstruction of Ukraine. We agreed that our teams will continue to refine this document, particularly concerning future reconstruction and investment plans.”

Trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, the US, and Russia are scheduled for early March in Abu Dhabi. President Zelensky emphasized the need for a leaders' meeting while noting Russia's lack of readiness for peace and the importance of sustained pressure through sanctions.
