Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has extended his congratulations to Peter Madjar and the TISZA party following their significant victory in Hungary’s parliamentary elections. In a message shared via Telegram, Zelensky emphasized the importance of constructive approaches in governance.
He stated, “It is crucial when a constructive approach prevails. Ukraine has always sought good-neighborly relations with all countries in Europe, and we are prepared to enhance cooperation with Hungary.” Zelensky expressed readiness for meetings and collaborative efforts aimed at benefiting both nations, as well as promoting peace, security, and stability in Europe.
The parliamentary elections in Hungary took place on April 12, with voter turnout reaching a record high of 77.8% by 6:30 PM. According to the National Election Office of Hungary, with over 63% of votes counted, the TISZA party secured 138 seats in parliament, while the ruling Fidesz party obtained 54 seats, and the right-wing Our Homeland party received 7 seats.
Prime Minister Viktor Orban acknowledged his party’s defeat in the elections and announced that Fidesz would transition to opposition status. Under Hungary’s electoral system, the majority of the 199 parliamentary seats are filled through single-member districts using a simple majority, while 93 seats are allocated to parties that surpass a 5% threshold.
