Ukrainian National Guard’s First Female Hero: Olexandra Davidenko Recognized for Valor

The Ukrainian National Guard has awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to Olexandra Davidenko, marking a historic milestone as she becomes the first woman in this military branch to receive such an honor.

Davidenko, known by her call sign “Vyrva,” is a former journalist from Zaporizhzhia who enlisted in the Ukrainian Defense Forces at the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Her commitment to service has been evident since her first days on the front lines.

During a critical 42-day period in the Bakhmut region, Davidenko and her unit successfully held their positions despite being tactically surrounded. This operation highlighted her leadership and resilience in the face of overwhelming odds.

In January 2026, while defending against a Russian offensive in the Pokrovsk direction, Davidenko demonstrated exceptional bravery by personally eliminating four enemy combatants and injuring two others. Despite sustaining injuries from a heavy artillery and mortar barrage, she managed to evacuate a wounded comrade from the battlefield, ultimately saving his life.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky presented Davidenko with the Gold Star Order, recognizing her extraordinary contributions and heroism in defense of her country.

Olexandra Davidenko has made history as the first woman in the Ukrainian National Guard to receive the title of Hero of Ukraine. Her actions during intense combat situations exemplify her bravery and commitment to her country.
