On the night of April 10, Ukrainian defense forces claimed to have struck two oil drilling platforms in the Caspian Sea, part of their ongoing efforts to diminish Russia’s military and economic capabilities. This information was released by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Friday.
The targeted installations included the ice-resistant stationary platform (LSP-2) at the V. Graifer field, formerly known as Rakushchene, and the LSP-1 platform at the Yuri Korchagin field. According to the Ukrainian military, these platforms are situated nearly 1,000 kilometers from the front lines and are crucial for supplying Russian troops with fuel and lubricants.
The Ukrainian military stated, “Ukrainian defense forces will continue to strike significant enemy facilities until the armed aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine ceases completely.” This statement underscores the ongoing conflict’s intensity and the strategic importance of disrupting enemy supply lines.
As of now, Russian authorities have not confirmed any attacks on these drilling platforms. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the downing of 151 Ukrainian drones overnight on April 10, but independent verification of the Ukrainian claims regarding the oil platforms remains elusive.
Earlier, on April 6, Robert Brovdi, the commander of Ukraine’s drone forces, indicated that the drilling rig Sivash in the Black Sea had also been targeted. Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, various sites within Russia have been subjected to aerial attacks, with the Ukrainian General Staff frequently confirming these operations. They assert that such measures are aimed at systematically reducing the combat potential of Russian occupying forces and compelling Russia to halt its military aggression against Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces have reportedly targeted two Russian oil drilling platforms in the Caspian Sea, aiming to disrupt supply lines for Russian military operations. This action is part of a broader strategy to weaken Russia's military capabilities amid ongoing conflict.
