Ukrainian defense forces successfully utilized strike drones to destroy two Russian helicopters at an airfield in the Orlov region. The assault resulted in the loss of a multi-role Mi-8 and an attack Ka-52 helicopter.
The attack occurred on the evening of February 20, 2026, targeting the Pugachevka airfield, located near the eponymous village in Russia’s Orlov region. This site, a small dirt airstrip, is operated by the local DOSAAF aeroclub.
Reports indicate that Russian military units had been using this facility as an operational airfield for a group of helicopters. The primary mission of these aircraft was to intercept Ukrainian long-range drones.
Confirmed losses from the strikes include two aircraft:
- The multi-role Mi-8 helicopter (tail number 53), which belonged to the 319th separate helicopter regiment from Primorsky Krai;
- The attack Ka-52 “Alligator” helicopter (tail number 18), which was part of the 16th Army Aviation Brigade from Rostov Oblast.
