Ukrainian Forces Intensify Operations in Zaporizhzhia Region

Ukrainian military leadership has reported a significant escalation in combat operations in the Zaporizhzhia region, with a focus on the area around Huliaipole. General Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, visited frontline troops and highlighted the concentration of enemy forces in this strategic location.

Syrskyi noted that the intensity of offensive actions near Huliaipole is markedly higher than in other areas. He stated that operational tasks have been adjusted based on enemy activities, and measures have been taken to enhance logistical support for Ukrainian units, including the provision of ammunition, drones, and other essential supplies.

The commander emphasized the enduring objectives of the Ukrainian forces, which include maintaining defensive positions, inflicting maximum losses on the enemy, seizing the initiative, and preserving the lives of soldiers. This strategic focus reflects a broader effort to regain control in critical regions.

Earlier, during a visit to the front line on March 14, Syrskyi indicated that Ukrainian Defense Forces are gradually advancing in southern Ukraine. He reiterated that the military aims to regain operational initiative and compel the enemy to respond to Ukrainian strategies.

In the Alexandrivka direction, ongoing counteroffensive operations have reportedly enabled Ukrainian airborne forces to reclaim approximately 285.6 square kilometers over the past month. Overall, since the beginning of the operation, more than 400 square kilometers of territory have been restored to Ukrainian control.

Commander Dmytro “Perun” Filatov of the 1st Separate Assault Brigade described Huliaipole as “almost occupied,” but suggested that this situation is part of a larger strategic plan. Ukrainian forces are working to regain territories at the intersection of Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions, referred to as the Alexandrivka direction in reports from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The precise timeline and nature of Ukraine’s counteroffensive actions in this area remain largely undisclosed, as Ukrainian defenders have operated under a veil of near-total information silence. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a March 3 interview with the Italian publication Corriere Della Sera, stated that Ukrainian forces have reclaimed 460 square kilometers of territory since the start of the year. He asserted that Ukraine is not losing the war and is committed to dialogue aimed at achieving peace.

Ukrainian military operations in the Zaporizhzhia region have intensified, particularly around Huliaipole, as forces aim to regain control and disrupt enemy initiatives. General Oleksandr Syrskyi outlined logistical enhancements and strategic objectives during a recent visit to frontline troops.
