On the night of April 6, Ukrainian drone forces reportedly targeted a Russian frigate in the port of Novorossiysk and a drilling platform in the Black Sea, according to Robert Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s drone units. Initially, Brovdi indicated that the frigate struck was the “Admiral Grigorovich,” but later clarified that it was actually the “Admiral Makarov,” which is equipped to launch Kalibr cruise missiles.
In a statement shared on his Telegram channel, Brovdi described the frigate as the first military vessel of the Russian Navy’s “Burevestnik” project, capable of carrying eight Kalibr cruise missiles and 24 missiles for the “Shchit-1” air defense system. He noted that missile launches were conducted from the frigate as it approached its target, yet the operation still successfully targeted the vessel.
Brovdi further mentioned that the operation was coordinated by the Security Service of Ukraine, and the extent of damage inflicted is currently being assessed by intelligence units. Additionally, he reported that the floating drilling platform “Sivash” was engaged by the 413th separate regiment “Raid” in collaboration with naval deep-strike forces. Specific details regarding this attack were not disclosed.
As of now, there has been no official comment from Russian authorities or military sources regarding the reported strikes. However, earlier reports from Russia indicated that drone attacks occurred in the Krasnodar region. Governor Veniamin Kondratiev stated that eight individuals were injured in Novorossiysk, with damage reported to residential buildings. He also mentioned that drone debris was found at several facilities, though specifics were not provided. A Russian Telegram channel, ASTRA, claimed that the oil terminal “Sheskharis,” a significant strategic asset, was among the targets affected.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of the morning of April 6, Russia has lost a total of 33 ships and boats since the onset of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the conflict, various sites within Russia have been subjected to aerial strikes. The Ukrainian General Staff has confirmed many of these attacks, asserting that Ukraine’s defense forces are systematically implementing measures aimed at diminishing the combat capabilities of Russian occupying forces and compelling Russia to cease its military aggression against Ukraine.
Ukrainian drone forces have claimed successful strikes on a Russian frigate and a drilling platform in the Black Sea, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict. The attacks were coordinated by Ukraine's Security Service, with assessments of damage currently underway.
