Ukrainian soldiers from the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade have captured a Belarusian national who was fighting alongside Russian forces. The mercenary surrendered voluntarily during clashes in the Sumy region.
According to military sources, the individual had signed a contract with the Russian army and entered Ukraine with the intention of earning money. During his attempt to surrender, he detonated a mine, prompting Ukrainian troops to locate him by his cries for help.
In a notable act of bravery, one Ukrainian soldier carried the wounded mercenary for approximately 10 kilometers across mined fields to ensure he could be exchanged for captured Ukrainian personnel. “I carried him so he could be swapped for one of our guys,” said a soldier from the 47th Brigade, known by the call sign ‘Lut’.
The brigade emphasized that every enemy combatant who enters Ukrainian territory will be held accountable, but that securing the return of Ukrainian defenders remains a priority.
In a related context, Ukrainian forces recently executed a unique operation utilizing drones to rescue two captured comrades from a Russian convoy. The Russian personnel, attempting to transport the Ukrainian soldiers, faced a lethal outcome when targeted by UAV strikes.
Additionally, members of the 25th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade successfully evacuated a fellow soldier following a direct hit from a Russian guided bomb on their position. In another instance, aerial reconnaissance units in the Zaporizhzhia direction used drones to rescue two Ukrainian servicemen who were stranded just hundreds of meters from enemy lines, one of whom was severely injured.
