A recent drone strike by Ukrainian forces targeted the Kirishi oil refinery in Russia’s Leningrad region, resulting in significant damage to critical installations.
Reports confirm that the attack affected primary oil processing units ELOU-AVT-2 and ELOU-AVT-6, along with facilities for producing oil bitumen, hydrocracking units, and gas fractionation systems.
The refinery plays a crucial role in the production of various petroleum products, including fuel that supports the military operations of Russia.
“The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue systematic measures to diminish the military-economic capabilities of the Russian Federation and the supply potential for occupying troops,” stated the General Staff.
On the night of March 26, Ukrainian forces executed the strike on the Kirishi refinery, which subsequently led to a fire involving the primary oil processing units and two storage tanks.
The Kirishi refinery is the second largest in Russia and ranks among the top three oil refineries in the country. It has a processing capacity of approximately 20-21 million tons of oil annually, accounting for over 6% of the total oil refining volume in Russia.
The facility’s output is vital not only for civilian uses but also for supplying fuel to the Russian armed forces.
A Ukrainian drone strike has caused extensive damage to the Kirishi oil refinery in Leningrad, impacting crucial processing units and affecting military fuel supplies. This incident highlights ongoing efforts by Ukraine to disrupt Russia's military capabilities.
