Ukraine’s Air Defense Successfully Intercepts Massive Russian Missile Strike

In a significant overnight assault on March 14, Russian forces launched a large-scale missile attack against Ukraine, deploying approximately 500 aerial attack systems. However, Ukrainian air defense units successfully intercepted all incoming missiles.

According to military spokesperson Yurii Ihnat, the attack included various types of missiles, such as the Iskander-M and S-400, along with two Zircon anti-ship missiles. The Patriot air defense systems and F-16 fighter jets played crucial roles in neutralizing these threats.

“Today, we faced another massive strike. The interception of a substantial number of ballistic missiles was achieved, resulting in a 100% success rate against cruise missiles,” Ihnat stated, noting that this level of success is rare.

Ihnat credited the achievement primarily to the efforts of Ukrainian pilots, particularly those operating F-16s, who were instrumental in downing most of the cruise missiles. He also praised the 96th Kyiv Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade for their effective performance in intercepting the incoming threats.

In addition, he highlighted the successful operations of drone interceptors, which managed to neutralize a significant portion of the attacking drones. “While I can’t call it entirely innovative, this method of intercepting strike drones has garnered global interest,” he remarked.

During the attack, Russian forces targeted Ukraine with dozens of missiles and 430 strike drones, with most of the hostile targets successfully intercepted. However, reports confirmed that six missiles and 28 drones struck 11 locations, with debris falling in seven areas.

The primary focus of the assault was the Kyiv region, where multiple powerful explosions were reported. Other affected areas included Sumy and Zaporizhzhia, with casualties reported in Kyiv Oblast.

The attack also resulted in damage to energy infrastructure across several regions, prompting energy companies to revise power outage schedules and implement emergency shutdowns in various areas.
