Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council head Rustem Umerov recently met with representatives from the United States and European nations, including France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. This meeting followed the first day of peace negotiations in Geneva, where the parties agreed on the need for continued coordination of their actions.
Umerov stated, “I concluded a separate meeting with representatives from the US and European partners.” The discussions focused on the outcomes of the initial round of talks and aligned strategies for future steps.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining a unified vision and coordinated efforts among Ukraine, the US, and Europe, noting a shared responsibility for the results. “We continue to work together,” he added.
The Geneva negotiations, taking place from February 17 to 18, aim to address unresolved points in the peace plan concerning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Delegates from the US, Russia, and Ukraine convened to seek solutions.
Russia has reinstated its delegation, including Vladimir Medinsky, a controversial figure known for his ties to the Kremlin. Medinsky’s previous involvement in earlier negotiations, such as those held in Istanbul, ended without success, leading to skepticism about his effectiveness.
His reputation is marred by the dissemination of Kremlin narratives and a lack of tangible outcomes.
Umerov characterized the first day of negotiations as constructive and focused, stating that the Ukrainian delegation approached the discussions without excessive expectations.
Further dialogue is anticipated on February 18 in Geneva, as Ukraine, the US, and Russia continue their efforts to resolve the conflict.
The recent meetings in Geneva between Ukraine, the US, and European partners focused on peace negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Key discussions included aligning strategies and maintaining coordinated efforts, with further dialogue scheduled to continue.
