Ukraine Offers Expertise on Drone Defense Amid Regional Threats

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has emphasized Ukraine’s systematic approach to countering drone attacks, which he described as a significant global challenge. Speaking during his visit to Saudi Arabia on March 27, Zelensky expressed Ukraine’s readiness to share its experiences in dealing with such threats.

In an interview with ICTV for the “Unified Marathon,” Zelensky noted the shift in Russia’s military strategy towards increased reliance on drone attacks, which he characterized as a cost-effective means to disrupt critical infrastructure. He stated, “Russia is clearly assisting Iran, and Ukraine provides precise expertise to countries in the Middle East to protect civilian infrastructure and people.”

Zelensky also highlighted that assisting Middle Eastern nations helps address Ukraine’s critical needs. He raised concerns regarding a potential diesel shortage, stating, “Ninety percent of the potential deficit we may face is diesel, and we are working to resolve this issue.”

When asked about the possibility of receiving assistance in countering ballistic threats, Zelensky remarked that the East remains cautious. He mentioned two significant meetings that he described as positive for Ukraine, though he did not provide further details.

On March 26, Zelensky announced his arrival in Saudi Arabia, where he indicated that important meetings were scheduled. The visit had not been publicly announced in advance.

Earlier in March, Zelensky had stated that Ukraine would assist Middle Eastern countries in defending against Iranian attacks, with Ukrainian experts deployed to the region. On March 17, he revealed that 201 Ukrainian specialists focused on countering Iranian Shahed drones were in the Middle East and Persian Gulf, with an additional 34 ready for deployment. He confirmed that a Ukrainian team is currently operating in Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, Zelensky proposed a reciprocal arrangement to Middle Eastern nations, offering assistance in exchange for missiles for air defense systems.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has outlined Ukraine's efforts to combat drone attacks and its willingness to share expertise with Middle Eastern nations. He also addressed the potential diesel shortage in Ukraine and discussed ongoing military cooperation in the region.
