Ukrainian officials are reportedly preparing for a significant prisoner exchange with Russia, coinciding with the upcoming Easter celebrations. Kirill Budanov, head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, made this announcement during an event marking the anniversary of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Budanov stated that efforts to secure the return of Ukrainian soldiers held in Russian captivity are ongoing. “Negotiations are continuing, and new exchanges will take place. I sincerely hope that we will witness a major exchange this Easter,” he remarked.
He emphasized that all necessary measures will be taken to facilitate such an exchange.
For context, Easter is celebrated on different dates by various Christian denominations due to differing calendar systems. In 2026, Roman Catholics and most Protestant communities will observe Easter on April 5, while Orthodox Christians will celebrate it on April 12.
Ukrainian officials are working towards a significant prisoner exchange with Russia, aiming for completion by Easter. This initiative underscores ongoing negotiations for the return of Ukrainian soldiers held captive.
