U.S. Officials Allege Russia Provides Iran with Intelligence Against American Forces

U.S. officials have revealed that Russia is supplying Iran with intelligence to facilitate attacks on American military personnel and installations in the Middle East. This information was disclosed to Radio Free Europe by anonymous sources familiar with the matter.

Details regarding the extent and mechanisms of this intelligence sharing were not provided. The Russian embassy in Washington did not respond to requests for comments. Publicly, Russian officials have called for an end to the conflict with Iran, labeling it an “unprovoked act of aggression.” The Washington Post first reported on the intelligence exchange, citing its own sources.

U.S. intelligence agencies have refrained from publicly commenting on these allegations. However, White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly dismissed the notion that Russian assistance has had a significant impact, stating, “The Iranian regime is completely devastated.” She noted a decline in Iran’s ballistic missile responses, destruction of its naval fleet, and diminishing production capabilities.

During a press briefing, Kelly’s colleague, Caroline Levitt, echoed these sentiments, asserting that the reported Russian intelligence support does not affect military operations in Iran, as U.S. forces are effectively neutralizing Iranian capabilities. Levitt stated that the U.S. is on track to control Iranian airspace and that Iran would face “unconditional surrender” once President Donald Trump determines that the country no longer poses a threat.

In a social media post, Trump emphasized that there would be no agreement with Iran other than unconditional surrender. Despite the White House’s assertions, the reports of Russian intelligence support have drawn sharp criticism from lawmakers in Washington. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat, remarked that Russia’s involvement underscores an increasing threat from Moscow.

“Instead of taking action, the president is easing sanctions against Russia and refusing to support Ukraine. This is unacceptable and provokes further aggression against Americans,” she stated.

Republican Congressman Don Bacon, a vocal supporter of Ukraine, shared similar concerns. He stated, “Russia and Iran are closely linked… It should not surprise us that Russia is providing Iran with targeting information to help them kill American and Israeli soldiers. What should surprise us is that the Trump administration seems to be ignoring this.”
Bacon argued that Russia’s broader strategic goal is to weaken the United States and called for the U.S. to supply Ukraine with long-range precision weapons, air defense systems, and upgraded F-16 fighter jets. He also urged the implementation of stringent sanctions against the Russian economy, which he believes should have been enacted a year ago.

Analysts suggest that the exchange of intelligence may be the most practical form of support Russia can currently offer Iran. Glen Howard, president of the Saratoga Fund and a specialist in Russian strategies, noted that Russia’s military losses in Ukraine limit its ability to send significant weapon systems to Iran. Moscow is facing equipment shortages and cannot fill gaps in Iran’s capabilities with radars and aircraft.

“This means that the quickest and most valuable asset Moscow can offer Iran right now is timely and practical intelligence,” he explained. Howard added that Russia might also assist Iran’s drone campaign through a manufacturing facility in Tatarstan. Iranian-developed Shahed drones are reportedly produced at a plant in Alabuga at a rate of approximately 3,000 per month, significantly outpacing Iran’s domestic production capacity of 200 to 500 drones monthly.

Howard also pointed to a supply corridor running through the Volga River and the Caspian Sea, which he described as a relatively secure route for supplies between the two nations. He suggested that Russian intelligence support and logistical ties through the Caspian could become essential for the survival of the Iranian regime as the conflict drags on.

Russia and Iran have long-standing military, political, and diplomatic ties. Iran has supplied Russia with a significant number of Shahed drones used in attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, although Russia is currently utilizing this technology primarily for domestic drone production.

U.S. officials allege that Russia is providing Iran with intelligence to target American forces in the Middle East. This revelation has sparked criticism from lawmakers and raised concerns about the implications of such cooperation between the two nations.
