On the morning of March 16, Russian drones were detected in the airspace over Kyiv, prompting defensive measures from local air defense forces. An air raid alert was issued at 08:28, warning residents of the potential threat.
Timur Tkachенко, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, confirmed the presence of hostile drones near the capital and urged residents to seek shelter. He stated, “Hostile drones are near the capital. Remain in shelters until the alert is lifted.”
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko added that air defense forces were actively engaged in the Obolon district of the city. “Air defense forces are operating in Obolon,” he reported.
As of 09:10, the air raid alert extended beyond Kyiv to the Kyiv region and included Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Alerts were also reported in parts of Odesa, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Sumy regions.
