On March 2, a Russian drone targeted a suburban train in the Kryvyi Rih district of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast while it was in motion. The attack resulted in one fatality and injuries to seven passengers.
A local official expressed condolences to the victim’s family, noting that immediate medical assistance was provided to the injured. The train was promptly halted, and passengers were evacuated.
Emergency services, including firefighters and medical personnel from nearby stations, quickly arrived at the scene. The injured were transported to hospitals for further treatment, and arrangements were made to ensure all passengers reached their destinations.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of attacks on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure by Russian forces. On February 22, during a large-scale nighttime assault, railway facilities were struck in four different regions, damaging locomotives and other railway assets.
Previously, drone strikes in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions had also resulted in damage to railway equipment and injuries to railway workers. Additionally, on January 27, a passenger train traveling from Chop to Kharkiv was attacked, leading to casualties among passengers.
In response to these ongoing threats, Ukrainian Railways announced the cancellation of certain train services and temporary adjustments to suburban train schedules in the Kharkiv region. Due to safety concerns, train operations have been restricted in four oblasts, with bus transfers organized for affected passengers.
