Russian Drone Strike Targets Train in Mykolaiv, Causing Fire and Injuries

On March 4, Russian forces conducted a drone strike in Mykolaiv, resulting in a fire near a passenger train carriage. Initial reports indicated a direct hit on the train, but later clarifications revealed that the drone struck the tracks adjacent to the carriage, which was unoccupied at the time.

The attack ignited a fire within the train. Vitaliy Kim, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, confirmed the incident and reported damage to transport infrastructure. One individual sustained minor injuries and has been hospitalized. Emergency services are currently on-site to manage the situation.

Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych stated that local authorities are assessing the residential areas nearby. As of now, no damage to residential buildings has been reported.

Kim also criticized Telegram channels that disseminated information about the attack in near real-time, suggesting that such actions could be interpreted as aiding the enemy, and warned of potential consequences.

In an update at 09:55, Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba noted that Russian forces continue to target Ukraine’s railway infrastructure. He reported that a drone struck an empty train in Mykolaiv that was undergoing maintenance, injuring one employee of the Ukrainian Railways, who received necessary medical assistance.

Air raid alerts were issued in the Mykolaiv region at 08:40, with Kim previously reporting the movement of Shahed drones towards the city.
